Submission Instructions

Author submissions are done through Manuscript Central. If you currently have a login and password for IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, IEEE/OSA Journal of Light Wave Technology, or IEEE Journal of Display Technologies, they will also work on the IEEE Photonics Journal Manuscript Central site.

Manuscript Central

Manuscripts are submitted in *PDF form for review, and in LaTex, Microsoft Word or any other word processor for later processing by IEEE publications. A template is available to guide authors in the preparation of the manuscript and in estimating total number of pages. However, since all articles are converted to XML by IEEE Publications, the initial format of the submission is not strict.

Submissions are revised by the Editorial Office for completeness and language proficiency. Submissions that are deficient will be sent back to the authors.

Upon submission, authors select a set of keywords which identify the topics of their paper. In turn, the list guides the Editorial Office on the selection of the Associate Editor who will handle the review process. Authors have ALSO the opportunity to suggest an Associate Editor in the Manuscript Central tool. Authors can track the status of their submission at any time through Manuscript Central.

Upon submission authors are required to sign the IEEE Copyright form accessible online through Manuscript Central.

Supplemental material
Authors are required to submit one piece of art work or identify a figure in the paper that best describes the results of their work. This ‘graphic abstract’ identifies the paper and is used in the paper’s cover page upon publication.

Authors can submit supplemental multimedia files such as animation, movies, data sets, sound files, and other forms of enhanced, multi-media content. Supplemental material also includes authors’ biographies, as well as a separate list of conference papers and/or other accepted papers related to the present manuscript. This optional information is required once the paper has been accepted.

Manuscript Preparation
Papers are published in a single column. A page in IEEE Photonics is 8”x11”, with 1.1’ top, bottom, right and left margins. Font is Helvetica Type. Strict adherence to the template is not required for final publication. The template is used to estimate the manuscript length.Authors are encouraged to use high quality color graphics. In particular, the journal uses a ‘graphic abstract’ as the cover page. The graphic abstract is either an artist rendition of the paper’s findings or a figure within the paper.

Multimedia – and other supplemental materials
Upon acceptance of the manuscript authors are encouraged to submit supplemental material in the form of:
a) multimedia files - these will be linked to the paper and identified as such.
b) other supplemental materials including: paper figures in ppt format; a related ppt conference presentation with its citation and authors biographies.
